How Do You Make An Emergency Call?

How do you make a 999 emergency call. Well firstly, is it an emergency? it is an offence and potentially life threatening to make a false or malicious call. OK its an emergency what do we do? firstly we dial 999 or 112 on the nearest telephone available - the call is free - whether from a house, mobile or public telephone. We will then get through to an operator who will ask "which emergency service do you require?" You will need to choose the emergency service appropriate to your problem. The three main emergency services are Fire, Police and Ambulance. Once you have made your choice you will be put through the Fire Service control room. The operator will tell the control room the telephone number that you are calling from. The fire service operator will then ask the following:-
  • The Address Of The Incident
  • The Town/Area Of The Incident
  • The Nearest Main Road To The Incident
  • What's Involved In The Incident
  • Any Additional Information Required

MACC (Mobilising & Command & Control) will then turnout the nearest fire appliance to the incident and will also call the police/ambulance service for you if they are required. Please remember that HOAX CALLS KILL and you should never make them. Also, please remember to speak in a calm voice so control can save valuable seconds by getting the address right first time.
